Educating
children about the value of healthy eating is something that can be difficult
at the best of times. The Carrot Club aims to help matters by giving children
the chance to follow the stages of food development from planting the seeds
to preparing and eating.
County Durham Foundation has so far donated £17,000 to the Carrot Club, which has lead to a children’s luncheon club being set up. At the club, a professional tutor aids children and parents as they learn all about healthy eating. The group use a small patch of land near Bishop Middleham village hall to plant many types of vegetables.
This innovative project deals with an issue, which has recently received
lots of publicity through Jamie Oliver’s school dinners programme.
The opportunity to plant, grow and harvest their own food is both enjoyable
and educational for the children. With your help and support we help can
make the Carrot Club a great success for years to come.
