Supporting people with disabilities - Green Explorers
Thanks
to donations received last year, one of our Gift Shop grants enabled the
Green Explorers to develop a plot of land into an organic garden, providing
the group with gardening tools, equipment and materials.
The Green Explorers have been working together with children and young people who have special needs throughout the Teesdale and Weardale area since they formed in 1999. With a focus on environmental issues, the group use arts, crafts, music and drama to promote local heritage and learning.
The Explorers now have the fully functioning 'Green Springs Vegetable Garden', which has a natural amphitheatre where the young people can perform music and drama presentations, and of course the garden plot which group members have been developing using organic methods.
Anne Noble, Project Manager explains what a difference Gift Shop Grant
has made:
'Thanks to the Gift Shop Grant, our group members have been introduced to new communication skills and helped to improve existing skills which are so important for someone with special needs.'
